Presidents Day is coming up soon, and you know what that means! Auto dealerships are going to be giving out sweetheart deals just in time for Valentine’s Day. If you’ve been trying to find a new vehicle, it might be the right time to get a used car. Besides, you can get a used car for your teen rookie driver, or to have a weekend project to tool around and upgrade at your leisure. With all that said, let’s look at some common misconceptions about used cars and why they are wrong.
They’re Not Reliable
The first misconception many consumers come across is that used cars aren’t reliable. Thus, they dismiss the merits of such a vehicle in favor of a brand new car. But any car you find nowadays has been manufactured to be as safe as possible and to last you while you drive it. You can go well over 100,000 miles without the engine failing you. Just make sure you have all of the other maintenance routines completed in a timely fashion – tire rotations, headlight upgrades, fluid replenishment, and the like – before you consider doing any fancy upgrades.
You Don’t Know Its History
Another mistaken belief is that you don’t know the history of the vehicle. Mechanics and dealership employees will go to great lengths to give you as much information about used cars as possible. If you’ve got your eye on something, don’t buy it sight unseen – the advent of the Internet has made researching vehicle histories so much easier!
They Use Too Much Gas
Using up too much gas is a huge concern these days. After all, the environment is steadily declining, and carbon emissions from human industry and vehicles certainly can’t help. But don’t think that used cars use too much gas. This is more likely with older cars from past decades, but improvements in fuel efficiency are present in cars and trucks from a few years ago, just like they are in a year-end model or a ride from a new model year for 2019.
You Can’t Sell Them Again
Eventually, you will want to sell your used car. It’s outlived its usefulness, or you can finally afford to afford something else. Either way, you can indeed resell used cars.
